The interplay between NCAM and FGFR signalling underlies ovarian cancer progression

چکیده
Epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) is an aggressive neoplasm, which has often disseminated to peritoneal cavity at the time of diagnosis. In order to better understand the molecular mechanisms behind EOC progression, we investigated the expression and functional role of neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) in this tumour type.

The adhesion molecule NCAM promotes ovarian cancer progression via FGFR signalling
Epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC) is an aggressive neoplasm, which mainly disseminates to organs of the peritoneal cavity, an event mediated by molecular mechanisms that remain elusive. Here, we investigated the expression and functional role of neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM), a cell surface glycoprotein involved in brain development and plasticity, in EOC. NCAM is absent from normal ova...

Thank you for the submission of your manuscript "The adhesion molecule NCAM promotes ovarian cancer progression via FGFR signaling". We have now heard back from the three referees whom we asked to evaluate your manuscript. You will see that they find the topic of your manuscript potentially interesting but they feel that the data need to be strengthened which should be addressed in a major revi...
متن کاملNeural cell adhesion molecule regulates the cellular response to fibroblast growth factor.
Neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) mediates cell-cell adhesion and signaling in the nervous system, yet NCAM is also expressed in non-neural tissues, in which its function has in most parts remained elusive. We have previously reported that NCAM stimulates cell-matrix adhesion and neurite outgrowth by activating fibroblast growth factor receptor (FGFR) signaling. Here, we investigated whether...
متن کاملRegulation of fibroblast growth factor receptor signalling and trafficking by Src and Eps8.
Fibroblast growth factor receptors (FGFRs) mediate a wide spectrum of cellular responses that are crucial for development and wound healing. However, aberrant FGFR activity leads to cancer. Activated growth factor receptors undergo stimulated endocytosis, but can continue to signal along the endocytic pathway. Endocytic trafficking controls the duration and intensity of signalling, and growth f...
متن کاملA peptide from the first fibronectin domain of NCAM acts as an inverse agonist and stimulates FGF receptor activation, neurite outgrowth and survival.
Neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) contributes to axon growth and guidance during development and learning and memory in adulthood. Although the Ig domains mediate homophilic binding, outgrowth activity localizes to two membrane proximal fibronectin-like domains. The first of these contains a site identified as a potential FGF receptor (FGFR) activation motif (FRM) important for NCAM stimulat...
